Curtis E. Doakes, born as the third of ten children to the union of the late Curtis and Earline Doakes, both of Bonita Louisiana.
He was baptize d in June of 1961, at mount olive mbc and met Annie Thornton, (Dr. Annie Drakes-First Lady Of Holy Ground Community Church) at the youthful age of five in Bastrop, Louisiana where they both lived. Their friendship grew and began to develop but was suddenly interrupted by the armed services. For two years he gained knowledge and skills while wittnessing grief and glory, on assignment, in south Korea and Vietnam. later he reunited with annie to Portland Oregon where their courtship continued.
Lost and without knowledge of how God’s grace was moving in his life, he accepted the Lord as his savior in 1969. (“to god be the glory “)
Also in 1969 through many trials and tribulations the almighty God showed compassion and love by blessing Curtis Doakes to forever walk in holy matramony, …uniting him with the woman who was the love of his live, Miss Annie r.Thornton. The union Blossomed under god as they brought forth four beautiful children: Sherrie, Curtis III, Valerie, and Micah. And his children blessed him with grandchildren, and great-grandchildren creating “The Doakes Legacy”
Educated in Louisiana, he later learned auto mechanics and accounting while being inlisted in the armed services. These skills will later prove valuable in his personal life and his church life. With an forever lasting Love and respect for bishop a.l. hardy, He proudly attend the “a. l. hardy academy of theology”
Where he received a Bachelors Degree in Theology, (Th. B.) A Masters in Theology. (Th. M) A Doctorate Of Ministries (D. Min.) A Doctorates Degree In Philosophy (PH. D.) and a Degree in Marital and Family Counseling.
He served God under the direction of Bishop A. A. Wells of the “Full Gospel Pentecostal Association” located in Portland Oregon where he obediently served and produced numerous fruits of labor for thirty-seven years.
Some of his accomplishments include: Northwest Leadership Conference Coordinator, Tribe Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher, National Transportation President, and National Youth Department President. He has odchestrated holiday events that allow families to fellowship with each OTHER AND WITH THE community. and like wise church social events that united and strengthen area churches. His contributions far exceed verbal mentioning, while overflowing pools of accolades that engulfs him.
First he was our Pastor, and now our Bishop, …he has been fulfilling God’s calling on his life at Holy Ground Community Church for the past 40 plus years. Possessing mannerisms of a true entrepreneur, he educates, teaches, directs, guide, and loves us all here at Holy Ground as with everyone God places in his path.
Bishop C.E. Doakes oversaw the vision, purchased real estate, development and built well over ninety-five percent of the hard and intense back-breaking labor that made it possible for us to enjoy the “NEW” Holy Ground Community Church as you see it today.
He is a published author with two books in syndication titled [i]“Because The Preacher Was Wise” Volume I and most recently Volume II. Additionally, he is a profound leader and a stalwart commander of the word of God. Both christian and secular groups recognize his renaissance style and controversial viiews. His office door is usually open to assist individuals in obtaining a better relationship with God and assist in the process of learning, researching, and understanding the word of God through biblical inquiries and trials of life.
With help from his wife, Bishop Doakes successfully established “Doakes Louisiana Style Restaurant” where his flair for succulent mouth-wattering bar-b-que in his own deliciously spicy sauce continues to win the hearts of Seattle-lites and visitors to the area.
He is not just another visionary but a man of action., He believes in a church where the whole family Go and Grow. His goals are consistent with his vision.
Bishop Doakes credits his accomplishments to God, who blessed him with a very supportive family, many friends, and a church family whom he says “The Lord Gave Them Trust and Belief In Me, so much so, that I was allowed room to take Holy Ground to a different Level.”
Bishop Doakes life’s creed and motto is taken from 2 Samuel 23:3 …”He that rule over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.”
